This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices when you use SkillShelf (the "Site").
1. What we collect
1.1 Skill submissions (no email required)
When you submit a skill, we collect what you provide in the submission form, such as:
- author name
- optional URL
- the SKILL.md file (and any related submission fields like category, tags, and notes)
1.2 Email updates signup (separate)
If you sign up for updates, we collect your email address (and any preferences you choose to provide). You can unsubscribe at any time.
1.3 Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our servers (and our service providers) may receive and log basic technical information when you visit the Site, such as:
- IP address
- browser/device information
- pages requested and approximate timestamps
- referral URL
- error logs
We use this information for security, debugging, and to keep the Site running reliably.
2. Analytics (Plausible)
We use Plausible Analytics to understand aggregated Site usage (for example, page views and top pages) so we can improve SkillShelf.
Plausible is designed to operate without cookies and to avoid cross-site tracking. Plausible also describes its approach as using irreversibly hashed visitor data and hosting/processing data in the EU on EU-owned infrastructure.
3. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- process skill submissions and run review workflows (including opening/maintaining GitHub pull requests)
- operate, secure, and improve the Site
- respond to messages sent to our contact emails
- send updates to people who opt in to email updates
- comply with legal obligations
4. Public nature of submissions
SkillShelf is an open-source registry. If your submission is accepted, it will be merged into a public repository and become publicly available under the repository license.
Pull requests used for review may also be public. Do not include confidential information or personal data inside skill content.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in limited situations:
- Service providers (hosting, email delivery, analytics, security) who help us operate the Site
- GitHub because submissions create pull requests in a GitHub repository
- Legal/safety if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Cartful, users, or the public
- Business changes (financing, acquisition, or asset sale), consistent with this policy
6. Data retention
- Submissions: we retain submission records as needed to operate and audit the registry. If a submission is merged, it may remain in git history indefinitely.
- Email signups: we retain email signup information until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it (subject to legal/operational needs).
7. Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect information, but no system is perfectly secure. Please avoid submitting sensitive information.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. To make a request, email [email protected].
9. Children's privacy
SkillShelf is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact [email protected] and we'll take appropriate steps.
10. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on the Site with a new effective date.
